Ventura, Calif. (August 28, 2013). — The Workforce Investment Board (WIB) of Ventura County recently welcomed Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) Chief Staff Officer Scott Loeschke as a new WIB member. In making the two-year appointment, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors also approved the reappointments of WIB members Brian Gabler, Bill Pratt and Mike Soules to two-year terms.

Previously, Loeschke was commanding officer of the Naval Construction Training Center at Point Hueneme. As a WIB member, Loeschke will represent NBVC in its outreach to the community to be an active part of the county-wide effort to develop and maintain a capable and productive workforce.

“It is in the combined best interests of the Naval Base and the WIB to have a strong regional economy, workforce and community,” says Loeschke. “The Naval Base is the county’s largest employer and has an approximately $1.7 billion impact on the local economy.”  NBVC supports approximately 80 tenant commands and has a base population of more than 19,000 personnel.

Loeschke looks forward to working the WIB on youth initiatives, especially those related to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) programs. NBVC offers training, mentoring and internships as part of its ongoing youth outreach. “Many of the commands across the Base support elementary, middle and high school education,” says Loeschke. ““We have several outreach programs that bring high school students to the base where they are exposed to and learn skills that they can apply to future jobs.” Loeschke is also interested in helping with veterans’ employment opportunities.

“Our relationship with NBVC is very important, says Cheryl Moore, WIB executive director. “The Base’s involvement with the WIB and the community provides new ways to strengthen and diversify our local economy and workforce that would not be available otherwise. The energy, experience and expertise that Cdr. Loeschke brings to the WIB will be great assets.”

Members of the WIB include leaders from business, economic development, education, labor, government and community-based organizations.
